The Dragons traveled to Rutgers University to play two conference games. This series included two 7-inning games on Saturday (5/6/17). Unfortunately, the third game of this series was canceled due to inclement weather. Drexel split the series with Rutgers, but were able to clinch the NAR-East Conference for the first time in program history with the win over Rutgers.

Game 1:

In the first game of the series, the Dragons came out hot scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Freshman Greg Markowitz kept the Dragons in the game letting up 3 Earned runs in 5 ⅓ innings. Junior Jake Moss recorded the final 5 outs letting up only 1 run. Tyler Wick, Shane Metzger and Paul Kubat each had 3 hits at the plate and helped the Dragons total 15 hits in the game. Mike Agurkis had 3 RBI on the day. Drexel clinched the NAR-East title with this victory for the first time in program history! This advances them the regional tournament which is hosted at Drexel’s home field (Father Judge High School) in Philadelphia.

Game 2:

During game two of the series, Brenton Rayner got the start for Drexel. He would go six and two-thirds innings, giving up only 3 runs. However, only 2 runs were earned. Despite a great start from Rayner, the Dragons struggled offensively throughout the game. Scoring only three runs, Drexel didn’t manage to get a lot of run support. Yet, Ben Acero highlighted the Dragons’ lineup going 2 for 2 on the day with 2 walks in 4 at bats. Acero also managed to swipe a bag and score one of Drexel’s three runs on the day. In a game that was close the whole way through, the Dragons had a chance to capitalize in the top the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and only one out, things were looking good for Drexel. After a force play at the plate and a groundout to third, the Dragons dropped game two against the Scarlet Knights by a score of 4-3. Nevertheless, the Dragons will advance to playoffs as the #3 seed in the North Atlantic Regional Tournament. Continue to catch all of the Drexel Baseball action by following us on Twitter (@Drexel_Baseball) and Instagram (drexelbaseball) as we prepare for playoffs.
